Announce National Promotion for The Age of Stupid
Sneak Preview Kicks Off National Screening Tour of the Most Talked-About
Climate Change Film of the Year
For Immediate Release – September 15, 2009 - Toronto, Ontario – Criterion Pictures and Climate Action Network Canada announced today a national screening tour of The Age of Stupid, the most-talked about environmental feature film of the year. An invitation-only sneak preview will take place at The Royal (608 College Street, Toronto, 6:30 pm) on September 21, timed to coincide with the United Nations Special Assembly on Climate Change. The film premieres at the M.U.C.K Film Festival and Forum October 3 and then goes on tour. The film is distributed in Canada by Mongrel Media.

“Movies are a powerful way to reach new audiences,” says Sarah Margolius, Global Marketing Director, Criterion Pictures. “We are proud to be working with the leading climate change network to bring The Age of Stupid to communities across the country.”

“The Age of Stupid delivers a very powerful message about climate change, the most pressing issue of our time,” says Graham Saul, Executive Director, Climate Action Network Canada. “Canadians want to be part of the solution, and The Age of Stupid is a great opportunity to put our campaign tools in the hands of people who want to make a difference. We’re proud to be working with the members of our network to help make this happen.”

As part of Climate Action Network’s campaign to support an urgent solution to the global warming crisis, screening organizers are provided with an action kit including a PSA featuring Canadian musician Sarah Harmer and copies of the KYOTOplus petition.

The Age of Stupid is being released using an innovative distribution model in which community-based screenings take place at the same time as theatrical screenings. The film has been used by environmental organizations internationally to raise awareness about climate change, and particularly in campaigns for the Copenhagen Climate Change Summit in December 2009. Criterion Pictures is the leading non-theatrical distributor in the country, representing major motion picture studios. For more information, or to organize a screening, visit www.criterionpic.com.
